BWH sets a fundraising record with a $44,700 contribution to the Tobin School
As the school year draws to a close, many Tobin School students are looking forward to a summer full of activities. Some will attend sport camps; others will spend their vacation days learning about a host of health care careers through a hospital internship program. All will have new opportunities available to them, thanks to the generous support of BWH
Setting a hospital record, hundreds of employees helped raise more than $44,000 for the Tobin School during the annual United Way/Tobin School Fund Campaign that kicked off in September 2001. Despite a difficult time for our nation, the BWH community rallied their support to make a difference in the lives of others. Looking beyond the walls of BWH, but only a short distance down the road to the Tobin School, staff and employees have helped ensure a better future for some of these Boston children.
Since its inception, the Tobin Fund has raised more than $365,000 to support a variety of programs focused on educational enrichment and enhancing parent-teacher communication. “It is gratifying to know that we have enriched the lives of so many Tobin students,” said Gary Gottlieb, MD, MBA. “But more importantly, when we reach out and become engaged with our neighborhood schools, the lives of our employees are touched just as profoundly,” he said.
Jean Egan, the new principal of the Tobin School, visited BWH on Thursday, May 16 to accept the donation from Gottlieb, and JudyAnn Bigby, MD, director of the Office for Women, Family and Community Programs. While bringing employees up-to-date on the latest school news, Egan thanked everyone for their generosity and compassion. “On behalf of our students, teachers and parents, thank you for all you do to make our school and our neighborhood one full of exciting, new opportunities.”
